Canada Initiates Public Discussion Regarding its Administration of the Steel TRQs

The following is provided by Global Affairs Canada. Further to the Minister of Finance’s announcement made on June 3, 2026, to extend the tariff-rate quotas (TRQs) for certain steel products listed in Item 82 of the Import Control List, the Government of Canada has launched public consultations to offer stakeholders with the opportunity to submit views on the administration of the TRQs. The input received will help inform potential changes that could be made to the administration of the TRQs, including the possibility of an allocation-based approach for certain product classes.

How to participate

Interested parties are encouraged to review the background page and provide their input directly through the online questionnaire: Questionnaire: Public consultations on the Government of Canada’s administration of the tariff-rate quotas for certain steel goods

The consultation period will run from July 23 to August 19, 2026, and the deadline to submit comments is 11:59 PM (ET) on August 19, 2026.
