In March, U.S. President Donald Trump signed proclamations that levied a 25 percent tariff on steel articles and a 10 percent tariff on aluminum articles imported from all countries except Canada, Mexico, Australia, Argentina, South Korea, Brazil and member countries of the European Union until May 30th, 2018.
CSMS message 18-000317 was released extending all exemptions, with the only exception being South Korea. Steel made in South Korea will be under an absolute quota program and aluminum will now be subject to the 10 percent tariff.
It remains uncertain if the exemptions will be extended after June 1st, 2018. We expect additional information to become available as that date approaches.
If there are no changes to exemption statuses, all countries will be subject to the Section 232 duties with the exception of Argentina, Australia, and Brazil.
