Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has added extension cords that do not have certain characteristics to the substantial product hazards list. These characteristics include: minimum wire size, strain relief requirements, polarization, and continuity. This now encompasses outlet covers for two wire indoor cords and jackets for outdoor cords. Cords not fitting these standards will be subject to refusal of admission. Manufacturers and importers will be subject to CPSC corrective action plans and penalties.
